Colmar, France

Colmar is an incredibly beautiful tiny village that is just 20 minutes from Strasbourg, France. Strasbourg is near the German border, in the Alsace region of France. The culture, food, and architecture are blended with German and French influences. Here in Colmar we found an enchanting village, full of fairytale steep pitched roofs, pastel stucco, and old timbered buildings.

It was easy to navigate Colmar using our wheelchairs, from the handicap spot in the close by parking area, to every street, nook and cranny through the almost traffic-free city center! In one of the parking lots are toilets. Cost is a 20 cent coin … so keep these coins handy in Europe and ready to use! Many restaurants had outdoor seating, where you could enjoy the crisp fresh air, the hustle bustle of happy tourists, while indulging in German cuisine and French crêpes! We were indeed wonder-struck… Our disabilities certainly do not define us. We enjoy the journey of finding ways to get from “A” to “B” in order to experience this wonderful world that God has created.

One of the things we really wanted to do was ride the river boat. The staff gladly kept watch over our Luggie electric wheelchairs as we did. I must admit getting in and out of the little boat proved very difficult…but fortunately we were rescued by very strong and gallant gentlemen! Most of this little river ride can be enjoyed from the banks. Should you decide to do the river boat…you can purchase your tickets on the bridge from helpful river boat staff.

Beautiful flowers everywhere!
